LinkedIn Quote Post
The professional-network genre of a short quotation plus a personal-lesson gloss.
The LinkedIn quote post is a recognisable format: a famous line, a line break, a brief anecdote, and a takeaway addressed to the reader. It exists because platform ranking rewards early engagement, and quotations reliably produce quick agreement.
Structurally, the quotation functions as borrowed authority. The gloss does the persuasive work while the quoted name supplies credibility the writer has not yet established with the reader.
The genre concentrates misattribution more than most. Lines credited to Einstein, Jobs, Churchill, and Mandela circulate in versions none of them said, and each repost adds apparent corroboration without adding evidence.
Common mistake: sourcing from a quote-image search. Verify against a primary text or a documented reference work before attaching a name — reposts are not evidence.
